Our picks

Best overall: Cravar Rana 13

Best overall: Cravar Rana 13

Full grain leather, a 13–14" laptop slot and six dividers for $400 — less than most European leather rivals. The slim 13 cm depth keeps it comfortable. Downsides: weight, and duties for some buyers.

Best for big laptops: Cravar Rana 15

Best for big laptops: Cravar Rana 15

One of very few leather camera messengers that take a 15–16" laptop. Go waxed twill to save $140 and about 200 g.

Best compact: Cravar Rana 10 (waxed twill)

Best compact: Cravar Rana 10 (waxed twill)

At $180 in waxed twill it's the most affordable route into Cravar, ideal for a mirrorless body, two primes and a tablet.

The alternatives worth considering

The classic rival: ONA Brixton

The Brixton is the bag most leather-camera-bag shoppers compare against Cravar. It's sized for a camera, 2–3 lenses and a 13" laptop, uses Italian leather (or waxed canvas) with brass tuck clasps, and carries a limited lifetime warranty. In leather it typically sells for roughly $430–520 — usually more than a Rana 13 — and at about 4.1 lb it's slightly heavier. Choose it if you prefer ONA's more structured look or want to buy from a local camera store with easy returns.

Best weatherproofing: Billingham Hadley Pro 2020

Billingham's FibreNyte and canvas bags are legendary for keeping water out and lasting decades. The Hadley Pro is smaller than a Rana 13 and has no dedicated laptop sleeve, but it's much lighter (about 0.9 kg). Pick it if you shoot in the rain more than you carry a laptop.

Most practical: Peak Design Everyday Messenger 13L v2

Not leather, and it doesn't pretend to be. A recycled 400D nylon shell, MagLatch magnetic closure, FlexFold dividers, expansion from 13 to 16 L and a 13" laptop sleeve, at around $250. It's the better tool for commuting and travel; the Cravar is the better object.

Best budget heritage look: Think Tank Retrospective 7 V2.0

Soft cotton canvas, a tuck-away zipped top under the flap, "sound silencers" for the hook-and-loop, and pockets for a 13" laptop and 10" tablet, at about $200. If you like the classic look but not the leather price, start here.

How we chose

We compared manufacturer specifications, current pricing from brand stores and authorized retailers, warranty and return policies, and published hands-on reviews. We weighted four things: protection (padding, weather flaps), real-world capacity (body + lenses + laptop), carry comfort (weight and depth) and long-term value (materials and warranty). See our methodology.
